Arsenal are ready to challenge their Premier League rivals Manchester United for the signature of Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez, according to The Sun.
The Red Devils have been heavily linked with the Uruguayan enforcer over recent times, as Jose Mourinho looks to solidify his rearguard.

Gimenez has been an unheralded star in Atletico’s side that continues to match the best in Spain and Europe, with the South American one of the rising stars of the world game.
The Spanish capital city side will be desperate to hold onto their enforcer, but it appears that a queue of clubs are lining up to snatch him away from them.
Arsenal bought Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia over the summer, with the German forming an excellent defensive partnership with Laurent Koscielny.
As such, the fact that the Gunners are being linked with another centre-half is slightly odd, but the North London side may let Per Mertesacker leave in the summer when his contract expires.
Gimenez would command a massive transfer fee given his young age and experience in La Liga and the Champions League.
