Arsenal are close to signing Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez, with the gifted star in London for a medical with the Gunners, according to The Guardian.
The North London club face a battle to finish in the Premier League top four this season and landing a couple of late signings would certainly be welcomed by the fans.
With Aaron Ramsey’s impending exit to Juventus, Arsenal will need a replacement for the Welsh maestro and the Spanish star could prove to be the ideal option.
Suarez is sublimely gifted technically, creative and has excellent energy around the park – but his chances of regular football at Barcelona have been blunted due to the quality of his team-mates.
Arsenal would be able to offer him more time on the pitch and his qualities would fit into Unai Emery’s way of play.
The report suggests that the Gunners want to complete an initial loan deal for Suarez that would cost the club £2 million, before having the option to sign him permanently for £22 million in the summer.
In today’s market and given the Barcelona star’s calibre, that fee is not unreasonable and surely the Arsenal supporters will be excited about their potential addition.
Should Suarez arrive at the Emirates Stadium before Thursday’s deadline it will cast more doubts over the long-term future of Mesut Ozil at the North London club.
