Respected Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nico Schira has stated that West Ham United are closing in on the signature of Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta.
The Argentina international is out of contract at the Etihad Stadium this summer and looks unlikely to be handed a new deal with the Premier League high-flyers.

Zabaleta will surely have no shortage of suitors and the South American has repeatedly been linked with West Ham in recent months.
The Hammers have issues at right-back, with Sam Byram not impressing and Alvaro Arbeloa consistently injured.
Midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate has filled in at the back as options look slim.
As such, West Ham are expected to address the issue this summer and sign a new player to fill the void.
Zabaleta would bring experience and combativeness to Slaven Bilic’s team and is available on a free transfer.
Schira has stated that the veteran will pen a deal with the Hammers until 2020, which would give West Ham some continuity in the position moving forward.
