Chelsea’s move to resign former defender David Luiz may well have come as a result of Argentine defender Ezequiel Garay rejecting a move to Stamford Bridge, Fichajes claim.
The Blues had a long summer looking for defensive recruits, with the likes of Alessio Romagnoli and Kalidou Koulibaly reported unattainable targets.
However, Garay’s name can seemingly be added to the list, with the South American central defender joining Valencia in the closing hours of the window.

The latest report suggests that Chelsea made an approach to land the Argentina international from Russian side Zenit St Petersburg, but the 29-year-old opted for a switch to the Mestalla instead.
It also states that Antonio Conte’s men offered €20 million (£16.8 million) for Garay, but his heart was intent on a switch to La Liga.
Chelsea also landed Marcos Alonso on deadline day to bolster their options in defence and it will be interesting to see Conte’s formation and line-up when the Blues are back in action after the international break.
