Atletico Madrid winger Nicolas Gaitan is keen on a move to ‘title contenders’ Tottenham Hotspur this January, according to Spanish newspaper AS.
The former Benfica star has failed to break into Diego Simeone’s side this term following a big-money move from Portugal in the summer.
That lack of game time has alerted Gaitan to explore other options, with the player reportedly seeing Tottenham as the title-chasing team he would like to move too in England.
The Argentina international has been linked with a move to the Premier League for a number of years, yet it seems the North London club could well be the team to land the fleet-footed wide man.
The Daily Mirror reported Spurs’ interest in the player earlier this week as Mauricio Pochettino looks to strengthen his squad in the winter transfer window.
Erik Lamela, a teammate of Gaitan at international level, is continuing to struggle for fitness and has returned to former club Roma to attempt to recover from injury.
With Moussa Sissoko showing poor form since his £30 million move from Newcastle United, Pochettino could well be in the market for another winger.
Tottenham have been in scintillating form recently and are currently in the midst of a five-game win streak.
That exciting run has coincided with Dele Alli rediscovering his goal-scoring touch.
The former MK Dons man has scored six goals in his last three league games, prompting rumours that the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid are going to bid for the 20-year-old.
With that sort of attacking prominence already at White Hart Lane, the potential arrive of Gaitan could be the final piece of the puzzle as Spurs look to win a first Premier League title.
