Glasgow Rangers had one of the better nights in their recent history on Thursday, when they saw off Feyenoord 1-0 in the Europa League, and after the match their fans were quick to praise the star of the show on social media.

It was an emotional evening inside Ibrox after the news broke of Fernando Ricksen’s death on Wednesday, with the former Gers’ right-back being paid tribute to before and after the contest from those involved.

Rangers went into the match knowing that if they harbour hopes of qualifying from their group, it was an outing they needed to get something out of, but it was not going to be easy against the Dutch outfit.

In a good quality encounter, the Gers took the game to their opponents and looked like taking the lead after just 10 minutes, when they were awarded a penalty, a spot kick which James Tavernier missed.

The Rangers faithful did not have long to wait to see their side take the lead however, as summer signing Sheyi Ojo popped up midway through the first half, to send the Ibrox crowd wild when he put the Glasgow giants ahead.

The Gers pushed on looking to seal the tie with a second goal, but that did not materialise, despite their best efforts, however one was enough to get their group campaign off to a winning start.

There were a few good performances on the evening for Rangers, but the standout figure was the Liverpool loanee Ojo, whose all-round display as well as his goal thrilled the home supporters.

Many of them took to social media after the contest to respond to a tweet put out by the Gers midfielder, one which received plenty of praise and plaudits from the Ibrox fans.

Here are some of the messages he received:
