The agent of Belgium manager Roberto Martinez, Jesse De Preter, has moved swiftly to rubbish the rumours linking the Spaniard with the vacant managerial position at Celtic.
The Bhoys are looking for the successor to Brendan Rodgers, who left to take charge at Leicester City last month, and while Neil Lennon was installed as interim boss, he is not expected to get the role on a permanent basis.
Rumours emerged this week that the former Everton and Wigan Athletic manager was on the radar of the Celtic hierarchy, and as such a flood of bets came in for him to be appointed as a result.
However it would appear that any Bhoys fans who ploughed into the big prices on the Belgium boss might have lost their money, certainly if the agent of Martinez is to be believed.
He has stressed to the Celtic supporters that his client will not be heading for Glasgow, suggesting that the link is purely based on Martinez having a Scottish wife and ties to the country.
“Roberto always seems to be on the shortlist as soon as there is a vacancy at a big club.” The Evening Times quotes him as saying.
“But this is a false rumour about him going to Celtic.
“It seems to have come from the fact Roberto has a Scottish wife and he obviously has ties to the country.
“However, there’s nothing to see here and I would suggest the bookies review their odds.”
It would be a massive coup for the Bhoys were they to be able to secure someone with the credentials of Martinez, who only nine months ago was leading Belgium to the semi-finals of the World Cup.
It seems that he will not be the next Celtic boss though, therefore it will be interesting to see who else comes on the radar come the end of the current campaign.
