Manchester United legend Gary Neville has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy is the best operator in world football.
Under the leadership of Levy, Spurs have transformed from a modest club that usually finished in the top ten to one of the best in England.
The North London club has made remarkable progress since Mauricio Pochettino was appointed as Tottenham manager in 2014 and now regularly finishes in the top four and qualifies for the Champions League.
“From a Tottenham point of view, they have got the best, I believe, operator in football in Levy,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“He is absolutely the best, for me. He gets some things wrong, of course he does. But he doesn’t get messed around. He stands his ground and stands up to managers.
“If you’d have said to me 10 years ago that they’ve got Harry Kane, Eriksen, all these great players – they would be gone.
“The first step for Tottenham is retaining the good players that they have. They have always lost their best player, their best two players. So for me, Tottenham, the last three years, keeping the manager and keeping the three or four best players has been clever.”
Ten years ago, Spurs were not really regarded as a powerhouse club.
If they did produce a world-class talent, he would usually end up going to one of the giants of world football – with the likes of Michael Carrick, Dimitar Berbatov, Luka Modric and Gareth Bale classic examples.
Tottenham have impressively managed to retain the core of their world-class talent since Pochettino took the reigns.
The only major departures in recent years have been Kyle Walker, who joined Manchester City during the summer of 2017, and Kieran Trippier, who left to join Atletico Madrid this summer.
The loss of Trippier was not even a major blow for Tottenham considering he had a frustrating season last term and also lost his place in the England side.
Spurs however have yet to win a major trophy since 2008 and it is something that they really have to do in the near future if they want to continue attracting the best talent.
