Leicester City made it two draws from two for their season on Sunday afternoon, when they drew 1-1 with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, and after the game their fans picked up an unlikely target for huge praise.
The Foxes went into the contest in the capital off the back of a slightly disappointing 0-0 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend, and showed much more of the creative and fluent football which we are beginning to associate them with against the Blues.
It didn’t begin too well for Leicester, when a mistake from midfielder Wilfried Ndidi was pounced upon by Mason Mount who gave the home side the lead, but the longer the match went on, the better Brendan Rodgers’ men looked, and in the end they might have been disappointed to come away with just a point.
The Foxes did not allow themselves to roll over though and put in a wonderful second half performance, levelling when their Nigerian midfielder made up for his error in the first period, and then creating a number of opportunities to go on and win the game.
They were unable to take any of them, but this was a display which justified the attention around Leicester heading into the season, and their potential for splitting up the established top six this term.
There were a number of Foxes performances worthy of being commented on, with one of them being defender Caglar Soyuncu, who was immense for the Foxes on the afternoon.
He is filling the big boots of Harry Maguire, but if Leicester fans were worried about the future after losing the centre-back, the Turk showed here that there is no need for concern.
That was noted by Foxes supporters, who were quick to pile onto social media after the Stamford Bridge clash to wax lyrical about the performance of their defender.
Here are some of their messages:
Soyuncu looks a half decent player. #lcfc

Very poor first half but we was outstanding in the 2nd half and could/should of won. But 2 points from our first 2 games against teams that will finish around us (top 6) is a decent start.
How good is the Evans & Soyuncu partnership starting to look, both rock solid today. #LCFC

Soyuncu was a beast today.
Fuchs, Ndidi brilliant in the second half having started the game poorly.
Maddison and Tielemans more and more dominant as the game went on.
A point away from home anywhere is always a positive.
Controlled the second half brilliantly.#lcfc 🦊

Was a bit concerned that Soyuncu’s performance against Wolves was going to be a one off but he’s more than proved that we didn’t need to go out and spend ridiculous money on a maguire replacement. Credit to the business that we did last summer. #lcfc
