Much has been made of Tottenham Hotspur being the only Premier League team yet to sign a new player this summer, but Mauricio Pochettino appears quietly confident heading into the new season.

While Spurs’ main title rivals have been splashing the cash over the last two months, the North London trainer looks content with the gifted group at his disposal – with one or two new faces expected to arrive before the window closes at the end of August.

Tottenham’s recent mentality has been to trust in young players, with the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Eric Dier repaying that faith in spades.

With the 2017-18 Premier League campaign just a week away, another rising star that graduated from the Spurs academy looks set to play a telling role in the club’s campaign.

Harry Winks is undoubtedly the next young star to progress from being a young starlet with potential into a top-class first-team player, with the 21-year-old’s influence over proceedings in North London seeming set to increase.

The deep-lying playmaker showed last term that he can be a shrewd distributer of the ball, with his vision, work-rate and passion endearing him to the Tottenham fans.

While competition for places is extreme in the Spurs ranks and Mousa Dembele remains a key figure for the club, most Lilywhites supporters will expect Winks to play a more significant role in 2017-18.

Injury ended his campaign prematurely last term but Winks is now fit and firing, with every chance that he could be named in the starting XI for the game against Newcastle United next weekend.

Dembele is a sublime footballer when at his best, but the Belgian midfielder has suffered from debilitating injuries and rarely plays a full 90 minutes for his club.

A such, with Winks operating in a similar role but offering more crisp passing, added urgency and youthful exuberance, the Englishman should be rotated in and out of the side at Dembele’s expense and be trusted in the very biggest games.

While Kane, Alli and the rest of the Tottenham rising superstars may get the plaudits for the club’s success in recent years, it surely will not be long before Winks’ name is added to this venerable and revered list.
